Walk without rhythm, and we won't attract the worm. It will go to the thumper.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Survival begins by adapting the body to the world rather than demanding that the world accommodate it. The irregular walk makes Fremen knowledge more useful than an outsider’s confidence.

Spoilers for DuneShow the scene
In the 1984 Dune film, Paul instructs Jessica to cross the open sand without a regular rhythm while a thumper draws the worm elsewhere. The technique depends on imitating the desert’s irregular sounds instead of announcing human footsteps. The book also describes the sandwalk, but the card uses the film’s longer wording.
