I feel like the floor of a taxi cab.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Egon is the film's deadpan scientist and the one who warned them, so being flattened by the very explosion he predicted gets him a perfectly flat verdict. The image of a cab floor is the film's comic voice in miniature: grubby, urban and unbothered. It is the line fans pick for any morning after.

At the climax of Ghostbusters (1984), Egon has warned the team that crossing the streams of their proton packs could be catastrophic, and the others do it anyway, aiming at the gateway above Dana Barrett's building. A huge blast destroys the Stay Puft form of Gozer and shuts the gate. In the aftermath the team is knocked flat and out of sight of one another. Ray anxiously calls out to Spengler and Venkman and asks Egon whether he is all right. Egon, dazed, says he feels like the floor of a taxicab.
