Drax

Nothing goes over my head! My reflexes are too fast. I would catch it.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The joke is Drax's total sincerity: he hears a metaphor as a physical object and swears he would catch it. Dave Bautista's flat delivery made the literal-minded Drax a running gag, and the line is still shorthand for missing a joke or a figure of speech. It also shows how the film makes a killer lovable.

Spoilers for Guardians of the GalaxyShow the scene

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), the prison escape. Locked in the Kyln's watchtower with Quill, Gamora, Groot and Rocket, the group waits for Rocket's escape plan. Quill calls Drax a walking thesaurus; Drax warns him not to, and Quill says it's just a metaphor. Rocket remarks that Drax's people are completely literal and metaphors will go over his head. Drax's reply is the line. Gamora mutters that she will die surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy. Rocket then switches off the prison's gravity and uses the hoverbots to push the watchtower out of the cell block.
