Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the sound of a boy who has been told his short life ends in glory and believes it. The delight in a doomed chase is what makes Nux the film's most human War Boy, and why fans quote the line with a grin and a mimed spray of chrome. It has become shorthand for a joyful, reckless good mood.

Spoilers for Mad Max: Fury RoadShow the scene

In Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), the sickly War Boy Nux has been given a transfusion from the captive Max, who is then strapped to the front of Nux's car as a living blood bag. Nux joins Immortan Joe's pursuit of the stolen War Rig. As he drives into the chase, shouting with joy, he cries out this line, and then calls himself the man who grabs the sun, riding to Valhalla. He follows it at once with the cry of 'Witness me' to his Blood Bag.
