No cat out of its first fur was ever deceived by appearances, unlike human beings, who seem to enjoy it.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The cat's claim gives experienced cats an advantage over people: they are not taken in by appearances. The sharper insult is that humans seem to enjoy being deceived. The phrase about being out of one's first fur connects this superior judgment with having moved beyond earliest innocence.
