A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. … This day we fight!
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Aragorn does not promise that courage will last forever. He asks the frightened army to make one decision in the present, where their choice still matters.

Spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the KingShow the scene
Before the Black Gate battle in The Return of the King, Aragorn addresses the men of Gondor and Rohan as they face an apparently hopeless force. He imagines the eventual failure of courage, then refuses to surrender to it on this day. The card is an excerpt of the speech; the ellipsis marks the omitted middle.
