Good heavens, are you still trying to win? You've got an overdeveloped sense of vengeance. It's going to get you into trouble someday.
— The Princess Bride • 1987
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Rugen is giving his killer a lecture on manners, which is exactly why the moment lands: twenty years of vengeance answered by a man who will not stop. The line is the fuse for Inigo's repeated 'Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya' speech, one of the most quoted movie moments of the 1980s, and fans use Rugen's sneer to introduce it.

Spoilers for The Princess BrideShow the scene
In the film's castle duel, Inigo Montoya at last faces Count Rugen, the six-fingered man who killed his father and cut the scar on his own face. Rugen has wounded him, and as Inigo struggles to keep fighting, the count asks if he is still trying to win and warns that his thirst for vengeance will get him into trouble. Inigo answers with the film's most famous speech, 'Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya', repeating it as he forces himself back to his feet and pushes Rugen back.
