You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Inigo's deadpan rebuke is the film's best-loved joke about language: a hired thug quietly telling his boss that he is misusing a big word, while the thing Vizzini calls impossible is plainly happening. Fans have turned it into the all-purpose reply to anyone who misuses a word, from 'literally' to 'inconceivable' itself, and it is among the most quoted lines in 1980s cinema.

Spoilers for The Princess BrideShow the scene

On the Cliffs of Insanity in Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride (1987), Vizzini has cut the rope to send the pursuing Man in Black plunging to his death. When Fezzik points out that the man has very good arms, Vizzini sees him still clinging to the rock face and cries "Inconceivable!" Inigo Montoya, the Spanish swordsman in his gang, dryly corrects him, then adds that the man is climbing. Vizzini orders Inigo to finish him, and Inigo says he will duel the man left-handed. The word was one of Vizzini's catchphrases through the film.
