When what's left of you gets around to what's left to be gotten, what's left to be gotten won't be worth getting. Whatever it is you've got left.
— White Christmas · 1954
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker mocks delay in a tangle of repeated 'left' and 'gotten': by the time someone's depleted self finally gets around to what remains to be had, that remainder will be worthless. The twist at the end lands the jab on whatever little the addressee still has.
