Original artwork, not a still

John Dryden

'Tis good to laugh at any rate; and if a straw can tickle a man, it is an instrument of happiness.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The value of laughter does not depend on the grandeur of what causes it. Even a straw can serve a worthwhile purpose if it brings happiness. The playful example makes delight available through small things, resisting the idea that pleasure needs an impressive occasion to count.
