Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker complains that summer is dreadful because it comes with an obligation to have a good time. Comparing it to New Year's Eve for kids, they suggest that enforced fun turns ordinary days into a test of whether you are enjoying yourself enough.
