Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Water fills the scene, yet the speaker cannot satisfy the simple need for a drink. The repetition makes that contrast sharper: abundance is useless when what surrounds someone cannot meet their need. Beyond its literal image, the line can express plenty that offers no practical relief.
