An editorial interpretation.
Star Trek's familiar Vulcan greeting wishes someone both a long life and a good one. Associated with Spock and the split-finger salute, it carries warmth through a character often described as logical and restrained. Leonard Nimoy traced the gesture to a Jewish blessing he had seen as a child. Among fans, the words have become a way to recognise one another and offer a simple wish for the future.
