Merle? What kind of hick name is that? I wouldn’t name my dog Merle.

What it means
Our interpretation.
Miguel mocks the name Merle as an unfashionable, backwoods choice. He pushes the insult further, claiming he wouldn't even give it to his own dog. The jab is petty and dismissive, poking fun at someone through their name alone.
