SUPER!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

SUPER! is Franky as a one-word self-portrait: loud, proud, a little ridiculous, and absolutely sincere about it. In a crew of fighters with sad histories he is the unembarrassed showman, and the pose gives fans an easy gesture to copy. Said with arms crossed overhead, it has become the standard way to celebrate anything you built, wore or pulled off yourself.

Spoilers for One PieceShow the scene

"SUPER!" (Japanese: supa) is the catchphrase of Franky, the Straw Hats' cyborg shipwright, and a fixture from his Water 7 and Enies Lobby days onward. He shouts it when he is pleased with himself, his body or his latest invention, and he strikes a signature pose with it: leaning to one side with a bent knee, head thrown back and wrists crossed over his head so that the star tattoos on his forearms join into one. The wiki quotes him in chapter 372 (episode 260) saying he is feeling especially super that week. The pose was famously copied by an Olympic shot putter at the Tokyo Games.
