Katniss

Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The slogan of the Hunger Games trilogy turns the Capitol's own threat around: the fire Katniss started is not going out, and everyone who feeds on it will burn too. It became the rebellion's rallying cry in the story, and the phrase of choice for fans, protest banners and posters of the Mockingjay pin.

Katniss shouts it in a propaganda spot, a 'propo', filmed for the rebels of District 13. She stands in front of a burning Capitol aircraft on a warehouse roof, the Capitol seal melting on a wing, and the camera pulls her face onto the seal as she shouts it at President Snow. The footage is meant to rally the districts. It comes in the first part of Mockingjay, which Scholastic published on 24 August 2010.
