Temenid

Euripides

When good men die their goodness does not perish, But lives though they are gone. As for the bad, All that was theirs dies and is buried with them.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The speaker says that when good people die, their goodness survives them, while the bad leave nothing lasting: whatever belonged to them is buried too. Moral worth is presented as outliving the body, and wickedness as vanishing without a trace.
