Freedom is too heavy to bear, especially when you’re down with a fever, or are distressed, or love nobody.
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Freedom is pictured as a physical weight that gets heavier when you're feverish, upset, or without anyone to love. The speaker suggests liberty isn't always light; without comfort or connection, having no constraints can feel like carrying something far too big.
