Ace and Skipper?! You sound like a kids' TV series about a boy and his bush kangaroo!
— Red Dwarf · 1988
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker turns the names Ace and Skipper into the premise of an imagined children’s television programme. A boy-and-kangaroo comparison makes the names sound less impressive and more comically wholesome. The joke works by replacing whatever associations the pair intended with an unexpectedly juvenile alternative.
