I had to get out of there. He's driving me nuts. I cannot stand front-seat drivers.

What it means

Our interpretation.

Rimmer reverses the familiar complaint about backseat drivers, directing his irritation at someone in the front instead. The word swap makes his annoyance sound comically unreasonable: even the person occupying the usual driver's position can become an intolerable interference to him.
