Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Kitty's complaint puts an adolescent voice against an apparently unquestionable authority. She wants her experience recognised rather than her age used to settle the matter. The undignified opening makes her determination more likeable and more specific.

Kitty Pryde opens Uncanny X-Men #168 (1983), ‘Professor Xavier Is a Jerk!’, with this protest. Xavier has decided she should train with the New Mutants rather than remain on the X-Men team. Kitty takes the demotion badly and argues for her place. Her later fight with Sidri hatchlings in the mansion’s maintenance tunnels, with help from Lockheed and Colossus, gives her a chance to demonstrate what she can do.
