Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The Western cliche of a duel at the stroke of twelve is turned into a warning: the cowboy has picked his time, and anyone he can see is in trouble. It became one of the most recognised shooter catchphrases of the late 2010s, a meme of its own, and the thing players yell as a joke whenever a clock reads twelve.

Spoilers for OverwatchShow the scene
"It's high noon" is the line the gunslinger Jesse McCree says in Overwatch (24 May 2016) when he fires his ultimate, Deadeye, in which he stands still, marks every enemy in sight and then guns them down. The wiki's quote table lists it as the Deadeye line heard by McCree himself and by his enemies; his allies hear "Step right up" instead, and he calls "Draw!" as he fires. In 2021 the character was renamed: Blizzard presented Cole Cassidy, and he is now called Cassidy, though the line and its fans remain. Overwatch 2 later renamed the ultimate High Noon, and the game has an achievement called It's High Noon for four kills with it.
