Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is the sound of Slippy being Slippy: cheerful, clever with machines and hopeless in a dogfight. Because the call is a real instruction (shoot the enemy off his tail or lose your wingman), it turned a throwaway voice clip into a shared memory for everyone who played the cartridge, and quoted alongside "Do a barrel roll!" it stands for the whole Star Fox 64 radio chatter.

In Star Fox 64 (Nintendo, 1997) the Star Fox team flies as a four-ship squadron, and Slippy Toad, the team's mechanic, is the wingman who is always in trouble. When an enemy fighter gets onto his tail he radios Fox with this plea; the player has to shoot the pursuer down before Slippy is too damaged and has to fall back to the Great Fox for repairs. The English voice work gives him a frantic, youthful pitch: he was voiced by Lyssa Browne, who also played Katt Monroe.
