Never give up! Trust your instincts!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

On Corneria it is a mentor's cheerful encouragement; in the Venom finale it becomes a father's last word, and the same eight syllables carry the game's whole story of a son finishing his father's fight. Fans use it unironically as a pep talk, the sentiment of the cartridge that is easiest to say out loud.

Spoilers for Star Fox 64Show the scene

Peppy Hare, the veteran of the original Star Fox team, speaks this line on Corneria, the opening level of Star Fox 64 (1997), as he coaches Fox through his first rings of the tutorial stretch. It returns at the end of the game: after Fox destroys Andross's brain on Venom, the ghost of Fox's father James McCloud appears in the collapsing lair, tells him not to give up and to trust his instincts, and guides him out. Peppy had been with James when Andross's forces killed him, so the echo is deliberate.
