Stormcloak Soldier

My ancestors are smiling at me, Imperials. Can you say the same?

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The prisoner claims a kind of approval his captors cannot grant or remove. Facing death, he turns the moral question back on the people carrying it out. The courage of the gesture is clear even before the player has chosen a side in Skyrim's civil war.

Spoilers for The Elder Scrolls V: SkyrimShow the scene

An unnamed Stormcloak prisoner says this during the Helgen execution scene at the beginning of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011). He interrupts the priestess and steps forward rather than waiting through the rites. The selected two sentences are the defiant end of his longer challenge to the Imperial execution party; they are not Ralof's words.
