Some may call this junk. Me, I call them treasures.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The shopkeeper sells a change of perspective before he sells an object. Calling things treasures makes his clutter sound like an opportunity rather than a problem. It is an especially apt joke in a game where one person's discarded cup may be another person's carefully collected prize.

Belethor uses this sales line in his Whiterun general-goods shop in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011). It also appears in the game's shared general-goods trade dialogue, so the wording is not exclusive to him. Its familiar place is a transaction over the assorted equipment, oddments and valuables the player brings back from adventuring.
