Welcome to MusicTown, may I service you?
— Empire Records · 1995
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker delivers a shop greeting for MusicTown, but asks to 'service' the customer rather than serve or help them. The unusual verb gives the routine welcome a comic sexual double meaning. A familiar customer-service formula becomes awkward through one small change of wording.
