Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is the thrill of a child's wish come true, delivered with a mix of shock and glee. Kevin's wide-eyed face as he realises his freedom has become one of the most recognisable images of the film. Fans quote it at the start of a holiday, a long weekend, or any moment when everyone else has suddenly gone.

Spoilers for Home AloneShow the scene
In Home Alone (1990), eight-year-old Kevin McCallister falls out with his family the night before they leave for Paris at Christmas, and wishes they would all just disappear. He wakes to a silent house that the family has left in a rush, having forgotten him. He searches the rooms calling for his parents and Buzz, and finds the cars still outside. Realising they are gone, he says it with growing wonder, then races off to enjoy the house, including his brother Buzz's private stuff.
