Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
A pun at Bond's expense in Desmond Llewelyn's driest voice: re-entry as innuendo, with Q the only man in the room who bothers to read the radar. Moonraker is the film that took Bond into space, so it closes on the most outrageous spacefaring joke it could find. Fans quote it as the perfect closer: sauciness with a straight face.

Moonraker (1979), the last gag of the film. Bond and Holly Goodhead have saved the world and are in the shuttle on the way home. On Earth, M, Sir Frederick Gray and the others watch the video feed and find the two of them together under a sheet. M is stunned, Gray asks what Bond is doing, and Q, looking at a radar screen, delivers this line deadpan. Bond looks up, smiles into the camera and unplugs it. It echoes the escape pod ending of The Spy Who Loved Me.
