Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
A hacker in a room full of screens states the film's creed: the truth can be killed in one place but not everywhere at once. Fans quote it as a rallying cry for any cause that refuses to be shut up, and as a sign-off for anyone who broadcasts for a living. The wording people use, with 'You can't', is a blend of Mr. Universe's two lines in the film.

Spoilers for SerenityShow the scene
In Joss Whedon's 2005 film Serenity, Captain Mal Reynolds and his crew learn that the Alliance created the Reavers on the planet Miranda, a secret buried in River Tam's mind. They take the evidence to Mr. Universe, a reclusive hacker with his own broadcast setup, who agrees to send it out to every world. He tells Mal that nothing can stop his signal, and the film gives him two versions of the line, the fuller one adding that everything goes somewhere and he goes everywhere. Mr. Universe secretly sells the crew out and the Operative kills him, but the recording still goes out when Mal reaches the broadcast tower.
