I'm not crazy, I've just been a very bad mood for the last 40 years!

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
A defiant defense with a punchline in the timescale. The speaker insists they're not crazy, just in a very bad mood, and the forty years turns a mood into a lifelong condition. The joke is the confident absurdity of the excuse.
