Dad was a card. I never met him. He died before the movie began.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
A funny, slightly odd line: the speaker calls his father a card, meaning a colorful character, yet says they never met because the father died before the movie began. It plays with the idea of a life that only exists inside a story's boundaries.
