What it means

Our interpretation.

The best punchline in romantic comedy works because it comes from a stranger who stays perfectly calm. It is both a compliment to Meg Ryan's performance and a joke about everyone watching someone else's pleasure. Fans use it whenever a friend orders something that looks too good.

Spoilers for When Harry Met Sally...Show the scene

In When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Harry insists that women can fake orgasms and men never know, so Sally proves it in the middle of a crowded New York deli, loudly, until other diners turn to stare. She then goes back to her meal as if nothing happened. At a nearby table a customer calmly gives her order with the line. The customer is played by Estelle Reiner, mother of director Rob Reiner, and the scene was filmed at Katz's Delicatessen, which still marks the table with a sign.
