'Nuff said!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Two words and an apostrophe that end an argument. It sounds like a shrug from a man who has made his case, and Lee used it with a showman's wink. Fans still sign off with it, and the cameo in Spider-Man 3 showed how fully it had become Lee's personal brand.

"'Nuff said!" was one of Stan Lee's trademark sign-offs in the 1960s, used at the end of a point in the Marvel letters pages, Bullpen Bulletins and "Stan's Soapbox". It stands for "enough said", meaning the case is closed. Lee used it as a full-stop for a boast, a joke or a plug for a new title, alongside his other signature closers "Excelsior!" and "Make Mine Marvel". The phrase appears in Marvel's pages for decades and later in Lee's film cameos and dialogue.
