A Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered a dull affair.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It tells the viewer how to read the Dothraki before the show has shown them: a culture where a wedding is an excuse for violence. Roger Allam's dry delivery makes the horror sound like etiquette. Fans quote it for any party that turned violent, and it foreshadows the bloodshed at Daenerys's own wedding feast.

Spoilers for Game of ThronesShow the scene
In the series premiere "Winter Is Coming" (2011), the wedding of Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo takes place in Pentos, arranged by exiled prince Viserys and hosted by Magister Illyrio Mopatis, who gives the bride three petrified dragon eggs. Illyrio, the portly merchant who brokered the match, offers Viserys a wry comment on Dothraki custom: a wedding with fewer than three deaths counts as a dull one.
