The Armorer

This is the Way.

— The Mandalorian · 2019

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The Way is more than a catchphrase: it is the Mandalorian creed, a call-and-response that says who belongs to the Tribe, and it is spoken by the Armorer as a blessing and as a reprimand. Fans took it as a motto for any ritual or code, from workplace habits to gym routines. Audiences also learned from it that Mandalorians define themselves by what they do, not by blood or helmet.

The Armorer says it in "Chapter 3: The Sin" (The Mandalorian, 22 November 2019), in the hidden forge of the Tribe on Nevarro. The Mandalorian has brought back a payment of beskar, but Paz Vizsla says it came from an Imperial smelter and calls the hunter a coward for working for the Empire. The Armorer answers that survival is the Tribe's strength, and the room joins her in the creed. Later, as she melts the beskar to forge armor, she says the foundlings are the future, because this is the way, and the others repeat it.
