Satoru Gojo

Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one.

— Jujutsu Kaisen • 2020

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is Gojo at his most arrogant and most dangerous, the moment the series shows what the strongest sorcerer looks like when nothing holds him back. The words are the Buddha's, so Gojo is casting himself as a god among mortals, which is why fans use it as shorthand for supreme confidence. The boast arrives right after he has lost Riko, and that edge keeps it from being a pure power fantasy.

Spoilers for Jujutsu KaisenShow the scene

In the Hidden Inventory flashback, the teenage Gojo is escorting the Star Plasma Vessel Riko Amanai when the assassin Toji Fushiguro kills them both. Gojo comes back from the brink having worked out the reverse cursed technique, and he is euphoric and half-delirious. Looking down at Toji from the air, he apologises for not feeling Riko's death as he should and declares: "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one." The rematch that follows ends with Gojo beating Toji. The scene is season 2, episode 4 (episode 28 overall), adapted from the manga's chapters 73 to 76.
