Luffy... help me. / Of course!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Nami has carried everything alone since childhood, and this is the first time she lets anyone in. Luffy's answer is as simple as it is huge: he doesn't ask what is wrong, he just puts his hat on her head and takes it from there. It is regularly named the best moment of the East Blue saga, and fans use the call-and-response to show a bond with a friend who will always turn up.

Spoilers for One PieceShow the scene

In Arlong Park, Nami finally asks Luffy to help after years of trying to buy her village’s freedom alone. He places his straw hat on her head and answers her plea before going to confront Arlong. The exchange is shared by Nami and Luffy, in chapter 81 and anime episode 37, rather than being a solo Nami line.
