At his execution in Wano, Oden has held his retainers above boiling oil long enough for them to escape. He starts his familiar name-and-cooking joke, and the watching townspeople finish it after Kaido shoots him. Episode 974 adapts chapter 972; the English subtitle pun differs from the manga form “I am Oden, and I was born to boil.”
