Duke Nukem, in a red tank top and sunglasses with a shotgun on his shoulder, grins out of a burning neon city as a pig-faced alien cop fires a green blast from a doorway behind him.

Come get some!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Duke's whole act is borrowed bravado: Ash's taunt, fired at alien-mutated cops across a wrecked Los Angeles, and turned into a menu option so the player is literally asking for the crowd. That double life, a barked taunt and a difficulty label, is why it stuck. It is still the line people use when they mean 'bring it' and want Duke's swagger to say it for them.

Spoilers for Duke Nukem 3DShow the scene

In Duke Nukem 3D (3D Realms, 1996), Duke, voiced by Jon St. John, never stops talking, and "Come get some!" is one of his barked one-liners; the Duke Nukem wiki's list credits it to Ash from Army of Darkness. It is also the name of the third of the game's four difficulty settings, between Let's Rock and Damn I'm Good, which raises the number of enemies in each level. Wikipedia notes that many of Duke's lines are lifted from films such as Evil Dead II, Aliens and Dirty Harry.
