A small child stands alone at the end of a long grey hallway, facing a tall mirror beside a golden flower.

Mirror inspection text

Despite everything, it's still you.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The first mirror told you who you were; this one answers after you have fought, spared, run or killed your way through the whole Underground, and says that you are still the same person. It is a quiet bookend about the weight of your choices, and fans took it to heart. A 2016 tweet contrasting the start and end of the year with it went viral, and the phrase turns up in fan art and even a Baldur's Gate 3 mirror.

Spoilers for UndertaleShow the scene

Near the end of Undertale, on the Neutral Route, the player walks through Asgore's Home in New Home, a grey house that mirrors Toriel's, with only yellow flowers, red wrapping paper and green keys in colour. At the end of the hallway, past the bedrooms, is a mirror like the one in Toriel's Home at the start. There it said 'It's you!'. Here, examining it gives this line as plain flavour text, with no speaker. The house is where the story of Asriel and the first human is told as monsters block the way, and the game is nearly at its last fight.
