Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Sans spends the game as a lazy, pun-making skeleton, so a threat in his flat lowercase voice lands harder than any boss roar. The line promises the fight that follows, still the game's most famous, and it has since become a catchphrase for a friendly warning with teeth, often posted with a skull's grin. It plays on the old trick of the jokey sidekick turning out to be the real threat.

Spoilers for UndertaleShow the scene
In Undertale's Genocide Route, the player has killed their way through the Underground when Sans stops them in the Last Corridor, just before Asgore's castle. He remarks that they must have been busy, and when the player takes another step forward he laughs and asks whether they want to have a bad time. If they keep going he fights them, after first apologising to the late Toriel for breaking a promise. Earlier in the same route, past the bridge before Snowdin, he had already warned them against fighting Papyrus.
