Sans

It's a beautiful day outside. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming... on days like these, kids like you...

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It starts like small talk and ends as a death sentence, which is exactly why this became the definition of the Sans fight. The cheerful, lowercase voice hides the hardest boss in the game, and the first four lines are now shorthand for any sudden turn from calm to menace, usually followed in memes by the bad-time threat.

Spoilers for UndertaleShow the scene

In the Genocide Route of Undertale (2015), the protagonist reaches the Last Corridor and finds Sans waiting, with no LOVE judgement this time. After apologising to Toriel for breaking his promise, he opens the fight with this speech: a beautiful day, singing birds, blooming flowers, and "on days like these, kids like you..." The sentence is cut off, and a final silent line of text finishes it, saying such kids should be burning in hell. His voice is not heard for that last line. If the player survives his opening attack, he follows with a remark about people never using their strongest attack first.
