Morgan Stark says it first, to her father at bedtime; Tony says it back to her in his recorded message, Avengers: Endgame (2019).

I love you 3000.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

A child's inflated arithmetic becomes the emotional centre of Tony Stark's story: the man who built a suit to save the world finally has something he cannot bear to lose. Coming back in his goodbye message, it lands as the line the whole saga was heading toward. Fans use it as shorthand for love beyond measure, and for Tony's farewell.

Spoilers for Avengers: EndgameShow the scene

In Avengers: Endgame (Anthony and Joe Russo, 2019), five years after the Snap, Tony Stark is living quietly with Pepper Potts and their young daughter Morgan. At bedtime he tells her he loves her tons, and Morgan answers that she loves him 3000, a number he finds crazy before telling her to go to sleep. After Stark sacrifices himself to defeat Thanos, Morgan watches his recorded hologram at his funeral, in which he tells her the journey has an end and uses her number back.
