Look around you... can you fashion some sort of rudimentary lathe?

What it means
Our interpretation.
It is peak Guy: the one person who has memorised the show answers a life-or-death monster attack with fan logic nobody can use. Fans quote it for any suggestion that is technically clever and completely useless, and it sits among the film's affectionate jokes at Star Trek fandom, where knowing the show never helps in a crisis.

Spoilers for Galaxy QuestShow the scene
In Galaxy Quest, washed-up TV actors are fighting for real in a conflict with aliens. A huge rock monster, Gorignak, is closing in on Jason Nesmith, who plays Commander Taggart. Jason has no ideas; Tommy suggests the eyes, but it has none. Guy, the convention handler who once played the ill-fated extra Crewman #6, comes over the communicator with a plan: build a weapon, starting with a rudimentary lathe. Jason snaps at him to get off the line.
