On Wednesdays we wear pink.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The Plastics' rules sound like fashion advice and work like a loyalty test: join us, and dress the way we say. Karen's sweet delivery sells it. The joke outgrew the film into a ritual, and fans do wear pink on Wednesdays, with October 3 (from a Cady line) the film's other holiday.

Spoilers for Mean GirlsShow the scene

On her first days at North Shore High, Cady is cornered by the Plastics. She tells them she is new, home-schooled and from Africa, Gretchen admires her bracelet as "so fetch" and explains it is slang from England, and Karen asks why she is white if she is from Africa. After stepping aside to confer, they invite Cady to eat with them every day for the rest of the week. Karen adds this line as the dress code for tomorrow. Cady rushes off to Janis and Damian, who tell her she has to do it and report back on everything Regina says.
