Stop trying to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Regina's cruelty is exact: she does not argue that the word is silly, she says it is not going to catch on, and she is always right. Fans use it for any forced meme, rebrand or slogan, and brands and even the White House have used it as the shorthand for a trend that will not take off.

Gretchen first uses "fetch" when she tells Cady a bracelet is adorable, then tries to say it again and again. After the Plastics run through their Jingle Bell Rock routine, the girls tease Cady, who is blushing over a compliment from a boy she likes and has joined the Mathletes. Gretchen declares it "so fetch" again. Regina, tired of the word, cuts in with this line, and the scene moves on.
