Napoleon Dynamite

Nunchaku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The joke is the gap between the skills and the problem: Napoleon thinks romance is a trade, and the skills he claims are about as useful at a school dance as a spare tyre. The list became a stock phrase for any deliberately odd set of talents.

In Napoleon Dynamite (2004), Napoleon tells his friend Pedro that nobody will go out with him, since he has no good skills. Asked what he means, he lists them: nunchaku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills. His theory is that girls only want boyfriends who have great skills. Pedro points out that he is pretty good at drawing animals and warriors, and suggests he draw a picture of the girl he wants to take out and give it to her as a gift.
