Napoleon Dynamite

Tina, you fat lard, come get some dinner!

— Napoleon Dynamite • 2004

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

A teenager who insults the pet he must feed is the film in miniature: deadpan, put-upon, oddly tender. The line stuck because nobody else would call a llama this, and fans use it as an affectionate insult for pets and siblings alike.

In Napoleon Dynamite (2004), one of Napoleon's chores is feeding Tina, the family's pet llama. He carries food out to her, grumbling, and calls her over for dinner with an insult. When she won't eat, he orders her to eat the food. The fan wiki lists Tina as the Dynamites' family pet, with Napoleon as her caretaker and a one-sided feud between them, and notes his nickname for her, Fat Lard.
