Let us open a bottle and do our best to save each other's souls.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Friar Tuck proposes sharing a bottle as a way of doing spiritual work. Saving each other's souls becomes an excuse for a drink. The humour is in mixing piety with indulgence, as if wine were part of the sacred duty.
